MOVING GUIDE · APPS

Best moving inventory apps for iPhone (2026)

For a single move, pick by how you want to track things. BoxBuddy if you want QR labels you scan to see inside a box. Boxes if you want every option, from label printing to team roles. My Moving Buddy (our app) if you want an item-by-item list with photos, no account and a one-time price. MovingBox and Under My Roof are home inventories that also help with a move. Sortly is built for businesses.

We read each app’s US App Store listing on 2 November 2026. Prices and features change, so check the listing before you buy.

How we picked

1. My Moving Buddy (our app)

We make this one, so weigh our opinion accordingly. It’s an item-level moving list: each thing you pack gets a name, photos, the place it’s going, a box number and an Open first switch. Search finds “kettle” or “box 12”. A Moving day checklist ticks items off as they arrive, and places that are staying are kept out of the totals. You can export Excel, CSV, a printable PDF listed by box, or a full backup.

Price: free for 30 items, then a one-time purchase, no subscription. Privacy: no account; App Store label “Data Not Collected”. Limits: no printed or QR labels, no shared inventory between phones, iPhone and iPad only (iOS 17 or later). Photo identification needs a device with Apple Intelligence; typing works everywhere, and voice needs on-device speech support for your language.

2. BoxBuddy

Box-first: photograph each box’s contents as you pack, print a QR label, and scan it later to see inside without opening the flaps. You can also talk while you pack, and it picks out household items as searchable keywords that print on the label. The Family plan shares one inventory with up to five people.

Price: free for 10 boxes and 2 photos per box (printing included); Single $19.99 a year for up to 1,000 boxes; Family $29.99 a year. Privacy label: contact info linked to you, plus some data not linked. Best for: households who want labels and sharing. iOS 15 or later.

3. Boxes

The most configurable app here. It numbers boxes and items for you, prints labels on any label or paper size, scans QR codes, barcodes and NFC tags, and supports team members with roles, CSV import, custom fields, reports and offline use. It covers storage and holiday decorations as well as moves.

Price: free download with in-app purchases (the listing doesn’t state the amounts). Privacy label: contact info, usage data and diagnostics, not linked to you. Best for: people who want labels and lots of control. iOS 16 or later.

4. MovingBox

A home inventory that uses AI to identify items from photos, estimate replacement values and track warranties and receipts. For a move you can mark fragility and destination rooms, and share a box contents PDF. Pro adds video analysis of whole rooms, several items per photo and iCloud collaboration.

Price: free tier with no item limit but one item per photo; Pro monthly, annual or lifetime. Privacy label: identifiers, usage data and diagnostics, not linked to you. Best for: a household inventory that outlasts the move. iOS 18 or later.

5. Under My Roof

A whole-home organiser: belongings, documents, maintenance schedules, renovations and insurance coverage, on iPhone, iPad and Mac, synced through your own iCloud account. It helps with moving, but that’s one job among many. On iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence it can capture a room from photos. An App Store Editors’ Choice.

Price: free for 10 items; subscriptions remove the limit, with a one-week free trial. Privacy label: Data Not Collected. Best for: homeowners who want one place for everything about the house. iOS 15 or later.

6. Sortly

The name many moving lists recommend, but today Sortly describes itself as inventory management for businesses, with barcode and QR labels, low-stock alerts, pick lists and user access controls. It works for a move, though you’re paying for business features.

Price: free download with restricted features; monthly or annual subscription to unlock. Privacy label: contact info, user content, identifiers, usage data and diagnostics linked to you. Best for: businesses, or a move that’s part of one. iOS 18.5 or later.

For a small move, a numbered list is enough. Our free moving box inventory template opens in Excel, Numbers and Google Sheets, and how to label moving boxes covers the numbering.
